Your journey begins after breakfast at your hotel in Senaru. We’ll transfer you to the Sembalun valley (1,156m) to register at the Rinjani Information Centre. The trek starts through open grasslands, with the summit of Rinjani visible ahead. We’ll stop for lunch at POS 2 before tackling the steep ascent to the Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m), where we’ll set up camp for the night and enjoy a spectacular sunset.

After a final sunrise breakfast overlooking the lake, we begin our 5-6 hour descent to Senaru village. The trail winds through lush tropical rainforest, rich with birdsong and the sight of monkeys. No. The Rinjani summit treks (both 2D1N and 3D2N) are physically demanding and recommended for experienced hikers with a good level of fitness. There are softer, non-summit treks available for beginners.
The trek is difficult to very difficult. It involves long days, significant elevation gain, steep ascents/descents, and challenging terrain (especially the final scree slope to the summit).
The best time is during the dry season, from April to December. The park is typically closed from mid-January to the end of March due to heavy rains during the monsoon season.
